PRIMO allows tuning complex microenvironment with 2.5D topographies and diverse cell populations in order to obtain reproducible disease models.
Cell maturation
With our technology, it is possible to micropattern substrates with physiological stiffness and promote cell maturation. Protein micropatterning performed with PRIMO will help you to grow mature cells that are able to proliferate and differentiate into other cells.
Here, researchers manage to obtain cardiac progenitor cells capable of proliferating into cardiomyocytes from human induced pluripotent stem cells.
Micropattern on any substrates’ topography
The PRIMO technology is compatible with stiff or soft cell culture substrates with varying topographies. With our technology, cells adhere on patterned areas only, for high culture yields, in tightly controlled physical and chemical environments.
Here, the objective was to form myotubes on a culture chip connected to pillars that have a contraction monitoring capability to mimic muscular disorders. They used PRIMO to pattern around and in between duo of pillars to restrict the myoblasts adhesion in the inter-pillar area and thus avoid myoblast monolayer formation over the entire chip surface. Thus, the myoblasts adhered in clusters and fused into myotubes strictly in the axis of the pillars.
Precise control over single cells and cell population shapes, sizes and locations
With PRIMO you can control the shape, the size and the location of your cells on the substrate to conduct homogenous and reproducible cell models.
Down below, micropatterning of adherence proteins allowed to test drugs against Rett syndrome on a homogeneous population of astrocytes. Thanks to photopatterning of large fibronectin lines, cell morphology was homogenized into polarized longitudinal cells and researchers were able to compare polymerization rate of MeCP2-deficient astrocytes with control wild type.
High content screening on adherent cells
It is now possible to conduct reproducible high content screening experiments on single cells or on cell population that are isolated on your custom micropatterns. With its micrometer resolution, the PRIMO micropatterning system allows to pattern any images at a subcellular scale and cellular scale with a high reproducibility. Therefore, it permits to precisely isolate singles cells or defined areas for cell population and study them in homogeneous and standardized conditions. These high number of cells grown in the same environment enable high content screening for more accurate disease modeling or drug testing.
